In selecting a home and studio
location was primary. My second consideration was "can
I make art here?".
My house was originally designed as a studio by
Glastonbury, Connecticut artist Laurilla A. Smith in 1853 and completed by her family
in 1857. Ms. Smith passed away before she was able to realize its
potential and I am the first artist to actually engage the
property fully as a site for fine art and horticulture.
The garden is key and is also my home base where I can readily
explore my palate. Energy and design must flow from house to garden so
that my essential thrust to create and enhance an artist's life is
experienced.
And ..... take time to stop and smell the roses.
